Valentine’s Day Victories

Single … dating someone awesome … dating someone not so awesome … married?

Would you agree that Valentine’s Day takes on a different feeling and meaning depending on the season of life you’re in?

Over the years I’ve experienced the awkward “friend date” when a guy friend and I went on a dinner date just so neither one of us was sitting home alone (that was last year) … and the “we are about to break up but I’ll wait till a few days after Valentine’s Day to do it” kind of date (a few years ago) … and the “single date” when I just made a bubble bath and soaked for over an hour while munching on chocolate (sometime in the past) … and the “out with friends trying to put a smile on my face and be glad that they have their significant other” kind of night. I’ve experienced the hopefulness of believing “one day I'll be married to someone awesome” and the sad feeling of “where are all the good guys, this sucks”.

Wherever you are right now today … 💖maybe you are happily married, which I have yet to experience, although I’m super happy for you💖 … or you’re single, dating … or just don’t really care … I truly believe that this year can be what you make of it. It can be what I make of it.

I wanted to write this blog to share some fun ideas. Maybe you have some you’d like to share in the comments. Together let’s be sure to love ourselves, love those around us, and love our loved ones well this Valentine’s Day. How does that sound😍?

I believe that we have a Valentine’s Day Victory each time we choose love, give love and receive love. - Elizabeth Rose

You’ll notice some of the ideas below are great for the single people out there, some for dating couples, and some for married couples. I’m just throwing them all together so you can enjoy creating a love-filled day.

BUBBLE BATH. Think candle light, soothing music, maybe even some rose petals.

Oily Addition: add 5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil single, blend, or homemade blend to 1 cup of epsom salt and poor into bath. Some of my favorites for bath time are Ylang Ylang, Lavender, Stress Away.

MASSAGE TIME. There aren’t many people on the planet who don’t enjoy a good massage. Treat your spouse or loved one to a massage. Be sure to use lotion so that the skin stays moist and easy to massage.

Oily Addition: Try adding an essential oil to your lotion, or use of one Young Living’s Massage oils such as the Sensation Massage Oil or Ortho Ease. **Be aware to avoid eyes and private parts, as this may cause irritation. Never wash with water if an area is irritated. Simply add coconut oil or a fatty oil (not essential oil) to area to decrease skin irritation.

Fun Fact: My mother is FAMOUS for her foot rubs. She even offers to give friends and house guests and strangers foot rubs. Inevitably it opens up the door for her to share about essential oils and she always offers to include an oil or two in her massage. So of course I caught the bug and really enjoy giving and receiving massages too.

SCENT. The brain responds to smell in an amazing way. We were created to enjoy smells, and even be repulsed by smells (such as skunk or dirty diaper, haha). So why not create a wonderful smelling environment this Valentine’s Day.

  • Bake something yummy

  • Cook a delicious smelling meal

  • Open the windows and air out the house to get rid of any unwanted smells

Oily Addition: Diffuse Essential Oils or Create a room spray with a few ounces of water and your favorite essential oil scent

*Tip: If your spouse/significant other isn’t a huge fan of “smelly essential oils” or kind of fusses about them, then just diffuse something simple like the Citrus Fresh blend or Orange or Lemon, maybe Lavender. Stress Away, Peace & Calming, and Joy are my favorite blends although not everyone likes the smell. Ultimately, you want your spouse or loves ones to enjoy the experience.

FRESH BREATH. Yes, we can all get that feeling of cotton mouth or after dinner breath. Brushing your teeth is a must, especially if you’re looking forward to some kisses. Staying hydrated helps maintain fresh breath, as well as staying away from acidic drinks like soda, sparkling water and fruit juice.

Oily Addition: Try adding a drop of Peppermint Vitality to your water bottle, or swishing with Thieves Mouthwash.

*I went to the store and bought a travel size container of mouthwash, dumped out the crappy stuff and refilled it with Thieves mouthwash. This is what I keep in my purse or gym bag for use on the go.

NINGXIA RED MIMOSAS. Try making up your own bubbly concoction with your choice of Champaign and 1-2 ounces of NingXia Red.

ENERGY. Need a little Extra Energy for the day and night time activities … try NingXia Nitro. It gives you an even four-hour energy boost without the jitters, caffeine high, or crash. Plus it enhances cognitive brain function and focus.

*Tip: Get some good exercise leading up to Valentine’s Day. You will feel much better eating all that chocolate and yummy meals if you've been active!

WRITE A SWEET NOTE. Have you ever heard the phrase “a smile says a thousand words”? Well, I actually think there is another little-known truth. “A few kind words mean more than an entire conversation.” Personally I LOVE to receive little notes, especially the sweet ones, the ones that say “I love you … I appreciate you … I notice you … I’m thankful for you … I see what you do for me and it matters … I’m happy to be with you … you are a blessing to me … you make me feel special … you make me smile.” Remember in grade school when you would write little notes to your classmates, or maybe sneak a special note to the girl or boy in the class you had a crush on? How about writing a cute note to your favorite person, or even to your friends this Valentine’s Day. It will mean more than a thousand word!

CHOCOLATE. We all love Chocolate, right! Did you know that not all chocolate is created equal? The bottom line for defining a great chocolate is the amount of cocoa solids present. The percentage should be a minimum of over 45 percent for dark chocolate and 30 percent for milk chocolate. Truly great chocolates have cocoa solids over 70 percent. Quality chocolate will melt in your mouth. Why? The content of the cocoa butter is what makes the chocolate melt in your mouth and provides its distinctive texture and flavor. Today most mainstream chocolate manufacturers have chosen to reduce the amount of cocoa butter in their products replacing this all-important ingredient with cheaper and nastier fats. This of course allows the manufacturers to offer their products at a much lower price. So what do you look for on the label? Does the label on the bar or box clearly indicate that it is truly chocolate? Of course you should carefully read the ingredients. Great chocolate should contain no more than about 6 ingredients and contain the percentage of cocoa solids as outlined above. Solids is the key term since some companies will advertise 70 percent cocoa, but these are not cocoa solids.

Moral of the story … you and your loved one will enjoy the taste, and feel better physically, when eating high quality chocolate. Allow yourself to splurge a little this year!

FOR SPOUSES … looking for extra ideas pertaining to using oils in the bedroom (if you get what I mean , xoxo), I recommend a book called “Lucy Libido Has An Oil For That”. She gives all sorts of helpful oily tips and recipes. It can be purchased online on her website.

Well, it’s time to prepare now. Make a list of the things you’d like to have ready for Valentine’s Day. Don’t stress over it. But get a little dreamy 🌟 and have fun with it.
